Not many times, will you find a horse offered for consideration on a professional platform that has been owned by one person their entire career, let alone an individual that packs a resume that you will hear directly from the "horses mouth" - but here he is!
I want to introduce a very good friend of mine, Ima Smart Cable Lena aka “Roanie”
This 2011 model AQHA red roan gelding is somewhat of a sentimental character to me.
I’ve known this horse since he was 4 years old, and I had the pleasure of taking care of him in my early career as well.
If you could scour the earth to put together all the intricate pieces to make the perfect non pro versatility horse, you still wouldn’t be able to build a better option than this guy right here. The textbook definition of experience, Roanie packs all the education as a finished reiner, low level cutter, cowhorse, and ranch rider. Oh, and he’s also been roped on!
He was trained by professional horseman Jim McCutcheon, who is notorious for getting a horse confidently trained in the reining & is an exceptional guy to ride behind- but what many people don’t know about Jim is that he is also throughly educated in the cutting & cowhorse as well. Another really neat thing about Jim is his routine: he will spend a Monday loping all of his horses outside, flag them on another day, circle and change leads another, haul to different arenas, and gradually build a degree of difficulty throughout the week to keep his horses locked in mentally & physically
So it’s safe to say Roanie received some of the finest education in multiple facets of the western performance world throughout his many years of thoughtful & meticulous care in Jim’s barn.
In more recent years,
Roanie was ridden & trained by NCHA Professional, Jose Cruze. Where he spend his days being cut & turned back on. He’s been extensively hauled, and you can guarantee if there’s a job to be done & a need for reliable individual to step up to the plate- Roanie is happy to do it!
This gelding is highly trained, very cowy, and is a push style ride- but packs a lot of horsepower that will make him a great teammate & competitor in many different avenues.
Another incredibly special thing about this gelding is his inept soundness. For a fact, he has ONLY had his hocks injected once as a 4 year old - and was kept barefoot unless sliders were needed. He requires no maintenance & is as solid as they come!
